As part of our mission to support vulnerable women and girls, we had the opportunity to visit a widow, Mrs. Rose Matthew in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, to support and empower her. Rose was a 27-year-old mother of 3 children, who faced a heart-wrenching loss when her 34-year-old husband, Pastor Matthew Tagwai, was tragically killed in an attack by gunmen in Ngbra-Zongo, Miango Local Government Area of Plateau State. Pastor Tagwai had started his role with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Ngbra-Zongo when unfortunately, he got killed alongside four others by militants who attacked the village. Rose was 7 months pregnant at the time and had two children when she lost her husband to the unfortunate attack.

This tragedy left Rose alone with her two young children, aged 3 and 6, and seven-month-old pregnancy. Life became incredibly challenging for her, even as she struggled to provide for her children and herself.

When we learned about Rose’s story, we sought support for her to start a business that could help her and her children, and again, with the kind support of Mr. Jacob from Miango, we received donations from International Christian Concern, which we used in purchasing items for her to start a business. Also, through STEFANOS FOUNDATION, a Faith-based organization located in Jos, Plateau State, we received support towards Rose, which we used in obtaining more items to support her in rebuilding her life and those of her children. Unfortunately, a few months after she delivered her child, Rose lost her newborn baby to the cold hands of death.
This is powerful
Thank you Nicholas. We appreciate your kind words.
