Jos, Plateau State | March 31, 2026
Africare Peace Initiative (API) strongly condemns the horrific killings in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, which occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
This brutal act of violence, which has left many innocent residents dead and several families devastated, is yet another painful reminder of the deepening insecurity and repeated trauma being inflicted on communities across Plateau State.
We are saddened by the report of loss of lives, including that of a young university student, whose future was violently cut short, along with many other victims.

At Africare Peace Initiative, we believe that every life lost to violence is a failure of protection, justice, and collective responsibility. No community should have to live under the constant threat of attack, or that families should have to bury their loved ones, all because violence has become a norm.
This moment not only calls for condolences, but for decisive protection of vulnerable people, accountability for perpetrators, and a renewed commitment to peacebuilding at every level.
We therefore call on security agencies to act swiftly and transparently in identifying and apprehending those responsible for this heinous attack.
We commend the government of Plateau State for it’s swift intervention in this situation, by identifying with the people and bringing the situation under control. Traditional, religious, women and youth leaders should intensify efforts toward dialogue, early warning, and de-escalation of tensions.
Communities should shun the act of retaliation and hate speech that could trigger further violence.
Plateau State cannot heal through cycles of violence. The repeated attacks and killings in our communities demand a people-centered peace response, one that prioritizes justice, trust-building and conflict prevention.
Africare Peace Initiative remains committed to promoting:peace and community dialogue.
We stand in solidarity with the people of Angwan Rukuba and all affected communities across Plateau State, as we mourn with the bereaved, and pray for healing for the injured. We call on all stakeholders to work together and ensure that such tragedies do not continue to go on unchecked.
Our Message is Clear: The people of Plateau deserve to live in peace, in safety, and in harmony. Enough of the killings.
